Dispatch stories

I ordered bubble tea 365 days ago.

This is a fictional anniversary, not a customer complaint. The tea has never existed. Its delivery, however, has developed an unusually rich social life.

A fictional game. No real payments, ownership or delivery.

The last 100 meters

Virtual distance: 100 m

Expected arrival: another 2 minutes

Brown sugar, milk, pearls. The rider collected the cup and promised two minutes. Somewhere between the shop and my door, a sunset appeared. It seemed rude to hurry past it.

Today's shared detour (UTC)
—

Day one: a perfectly ordinary order

Brown sugar, milk, pearls. The rider collected the cup and promised two minutes. Somewhere between the shop and my door, a sunset appeared. It seemed rude to hurry past it.

Day one hundred: the cup writes home

The tea had visited a cloud-shaped roundabout and acquired strong opinions about traffic lights. Its ice was still intact. This is the advantage of being imaginary: quality control can take a very long view.

Day three hundred and sixty-five: still on the way

I made a postcard for the occasion. It did not prove that I had waited a real year; it celebrated a silly story about waiting. The rider sent one final update: “Good news. Still only two minutes.”
